READ YOUR BOOKS! A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste!

Proverbs 18:15 ERV

“Wise people want to learn more, so they listen closely to gain knowledge.”

Have you ever considered the fact that God says that wise people enjoy learning and gaining knowledge? In fact, the Bible says that "wise people want to learn more, so they listen closely to gain knowledge." What better way to learn more, listen closely, and to gain knowledge than to Read Your Books!

So let's get into it!

The United Negro College Fund, affectionately known as UNCF, has an iconic motto that says, A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste! We totally agree! God has given us this INCREDIBLE instrument called "a mind," and He intends for us to put it to great use in every way possible, to bring glory to Him and to live the abundant life that He has prepared for us.

Our goal at Wisdom Girl Wise Woman is to inspire, impact and encourage people to Wise Up, Live and Prosper! So pay close attention as we encourage you to Read Your Books and remind you that a mind really is a terrible thing to waste.

So what is it about reading that’s so important?

1. Reading improves your brain function -

(It exercises your brain; it causes you to think and process thoughts; it increases blood flow so that your entire body can be healthy - from head to toes.)

2. Reading reduces stress -

(If you’re upset about something, get a good book and watch how it calms you down. You will get lost in the story and at least for those moments of reading, you will forget about the thing that you were stressed out about.)

3. Books are the key to life and imagination -

(There are so many true stories that can help you make wise choices in life, and there are so many imaginative stories that can help you be creative in life.)

4. Reading improves your vocabulary and can open doors for you -

(When you use great vocabulary, and learn certain words to use, it can get you into doors that would normally be closed to you.)

5. Reading aloud to children has a lasting impact -

(Children remember the stories, even if they don’t know how to read. They remember the outcomes, the successes, the warnings. It expands their minds from a very young age.)

6. Here are some suggestions of books you can read…

[The Bible, obviously, is our number one choice. But we know you already know that.]

a. Are You My Mother? - by Dr. Seuss (children's book)

b. One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish - by Dr. Seuss (children's book)

c. Malcolm X, By Any Means Necessary - by Walter Dean Myers (middle school-high school)

d. Moby Dick - by Herman Melville (middle school-high school)

e. Us Against The World - by David & Tamela Mann (adults)

f. Becoming - by Michelle Obama (There are versions for various age groups)

g. How to Run Your Business by the Book - by Dave Anderson (adults)

So there you have it!! Enjoy READING YOUR BOOKS!
